LEST WE FORGET

'Lest We Forget: Structures and Memory in the United Arab Emirates' archives the history of architectural and urban development in the UAE over the past century with a particular focus on the 1970s-1980s, the early days of the founding of the nation and its entrance onto the world stage, a truly dynamic period of innovation, adaptation and experimentation. It also contextualizes the modernist architecture and urban planning of the Emiratates within an international framework, seeking to demonstrate the interplay of international influences with a local vernacular. UAE sit at the crossroad of the East and West, and this crossroad has long been a place where ideas, people and cultures meet.
