Set within the historic walls of a traditional fort, the exhibition traces the long-standing relationship between a land shaped over millions of years and the people who came to inhabit it. In a challenging and often harsh environment, communities not only survived but flourished by learning to shape and adapt to the desert, while also attuning their lives to its natural rhythms.
These ongoing exchanges gave rise to a distinctive way of life, a particular social and political structure, and a shared system of values and identity deeply influenced by local conditions. The ability of the inhabitants to reinterpret and make use of available materials and resources fostered a harmonious balance between transformation, economic development, and the safeguarding of the natural environment.
The exhibition at Al Dhafra Fort seeks to illuminate this reciprocal bond between people and place through immersive, contemporary, and evocative experiences.
Allestita all’interno delle mura storiche di un forte tradizionale, la mostra ripercorre il lungo rapporto tra una terra plasmata nel corso di milioni di anni e le persone che l’hanno abitata. In un ambiente difficile e spesso ostile, le comunità non solo sono riuscite a sopravvivere, ma anche a prosperare, imparando a modellare e adattarsi al deserto, vivendo al tempo stesso in sintonia con i suoi ritmi naturali.
Da questi scambi continui è emerso uno stile di vita distintivo, una specifica organizzazione sociale e politica, nonché un sistema condiviso di valori e identità profondamente influenzato dalle condizioni locali. La capacità degli abitanti di reinterpretare e valorizzare le risorse e i materiali disponibili ha favorito un equilibrio armonioso tra trasformazione, sviluppo economico e tutela dell’ambiente naturale.
La mostra all’Al Dhafra Fort intende mettere in luce questo legame reciproco tra le persone e il territorio attraverso esperienze immersive, contemporanee ed evocative.
