The design of the new Civic Center of Belforte originates from the architectural regeneration of its 1950s structure.
What began as a renovation of the interior spaces gradually evolved into a broader intervention, aimed at reestablishing a meaningful relationship between the building and the historic core of the village. This goal has been pursued through the creation of new pedestrian pathways, the addition of pergolas, and the introduction of a public garden—elements that reinforce the role of the Casa del Popolo as both a social hub and a spatial anchor for the community.
It is a public project in the truest sense, rooted in the values of civic engagement and collective space. The existing structure, layered with additions and alterations over time, occupies a marginal and partly subterranean position in relation to the historic center. Within this challenging context, the new Multipurpose Center must not only adapt to the inherited volume but also forge stronger physical and visual ties with Belforte’s elevated square above, restoring continuity with the fabric of the town.
The new access route is emphasized by a linear architectural gesture: a pergola that gradually transforms into a green façade. This living envelope both redefines the identity of the building and symbolically reclaims its role as an open, welcoming presence for the community.
