Kotobuki: Auspicious Celebrations of Japanese Art from New York Private Collections explores the theme of celebration and longevitythrough a selection of Japanese artworks spanning the 12th to the 21st century.

The graphic design and illustration project for this exhibition originated from a simple idea: isolating selected details from the many artworks on display. These are often marginal elements, or fragments embedded within larger compositions.

This process of extraction creates a non-revealing preview of the exhibition’s content, offering a glimpse without disclosing the whole. The details were photographed, digitally processed, and subsequently vectorized. In this way, a small fragment measuring just 10 cm could be transformed into a graphic element extending across the entire height of the building’s floor.
