Milan, 2011
Promoter: Chamber of Architects, Milan

In the winter of 2011, the Municipality of Milan was preparing to adopt its new Master Plan (PGT, Piano del Governo del Territorio), conceived as a more flexible planning tool compared to the previous framework. The primary objective of this new plan was to encourage urban growth through revised spatial requirements and updated building regulations, aiming to foster densification while simultaneously promoting the proliferation of public spaces.
A few months before the official adoption of the plan, the Chamber of Architects of Milan invited our office to design a pilot project for collective housing. The purpose was to test how effectively the principles of the new Master Plan could be translated into high-quality architecture.
Our proposal sought to experiment with and combine different housing typologies, carefully balancing the private sphere of domestic life with shared and collective spaces. The design emphasized the coexistence of individuality and community, proposing a model of living that aligned with the city’s vision of greater density while preserving livability and fostering a sense of belonging.
