Temporary Installation for a Roman Amphitheater

Sutri (VT), Italy, 2021

Client: Comune di Sutri

Surface: 2200sm

The project envisions a temporary structure—an ideal internal extrusion of the existing stalls—designed to comfortably accommodate a seated audience of around 500–700 visitors. Positioned along the “walkable” edge of the arena, the structure restores the original 360° viewing experience.

At the center, where the longitudinal and transverse axes intersect, a demountable stage will be installed. Its dimensions ensure sufficient distance between performers and audience while allowing spectators to circulate with ease.

The seating, constructed from wood with an invisible steel substructure, is designed in modular portions. When assembled, these modules form a continuous and uniform element, interrupted only at the entrances. Once removed from the amphitheater, the modules can be easily transported and reconfigured as informal seating—sustainable furnishings that extend their use into the surrounding archaeological park.
