An ecotone is a transitional space between two ecosystems: a meeting ground where species from adjacent areas coexist alongside others unique to the threshold itself. Its permeability—between woodland and prairie, or fresh water and salt water—allows for exceptionally high biodiversity.

This project takes inspiration from that idea, proposing an ecotone that links two environments often seen as incompatible: the forest park and the built city. A park follows rhythms and dynamics very different from those of human settlements; the lifespan of a building is brief compared to the slow growth of a forest. Visitors are invited to witness this evolution, fostering a symbolic and emotional attachment as the landscape develops over time.

The integrated network of environmental systems makes Valdebebas Park entirely self-sufficient in energy, reinforcing its role as a vital “green lung” for the city of Madrid.
